Mumbai witnessed a major fire incident late Sunday night as a massive blaze broke out at the Link Square Mall in Bandra’s Linking Road area. The fire, which reportedly started at a Croma electronics showroom, quickly spread throughout the mall, gutting more than 100 shops and causing significant property damage.
Fire department officials rushed to the spot, deploying over a dozen fire engines, water tankers, and rescue vehicles. It took several hours to bring the situation under control. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far, though the financial loss is expected to be substantial.
Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddique, whose family owns the mall, expressed deep disappointment over the response and preparedness of the Mumbai Fire Brigade. Calling the department “ill-equipped,” Siddique raised serious concerns about the handling of the fire and the lack of adequate safety measures, emphasizing the urgent need for better firefighting infrastructure in the city.
Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit could be the cause of the fire, but a detailed probe is underway. Local shopkeepers and residents have also demanded a thorough review of fire safety protocols at commercial establishments across Mumbai.
As recovery and damage assessment efforts continue, the incident has once again highlighted the critical importance of strict fire safety compliance, especially in busy commercial hubs.
