Weather in North India has taken another dramatic turn. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for rain and thunderstorms in various regions of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. After enduring a long spell of extreme heat, people in these areas can now expect some much-needed relief.
As temperatures soared and hot winds swept through the region, many cities have now witnessed cooler winds and scattered rainfall — a welcome sign for both citizens and farmers.
Districts in Uttar Pradesh on Rain Watch
According to IMD’s latest forecast, several districts in western, central, and eastern Uttar Pradesh may receive light to moderate rainfall. Districts such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Meerut, and Moradabad are under rain watch.
Winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 50 km/h may sweep through these regions. There is also a chance of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in certain areas.
Relief in Delhi-NCR After Intense Heat
Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), too, have experienced changes in the weather. Following days of scorching heat, the capital saw light rain and gusty winds on Sunday, causing a noticeable drop in temperatures.
IMD predicts that Delhi will continue to experience similar weather over the next few days. While the onset of monsoon hasn’t been officially declared yet, these weather conditions hint toward its arrival.
Monsoon Expected Soon in Uttar Pradesh
As per IMD’s estimates, the monsoon is expected to reach Uttar Pradesh between June 20 and June 22. The seasonal winds are slightly delayed this year, but no significant deviation from the usual timeline is expected.
Experts attribute this weather shift to moisture from the Bay of Bengal and winds from the Arabian Sea converging over the northern plains.
Good News for Farmers and Residents
The changing weather comes as a relief for farmers, as this period is crucial for sowing new crops. The early rain will help prepare fields and reduce irrigation costs.
For the general public, who have been struggling with intense heatwaves, this is a much-needed respite. However, with thunderstorms and the potential for lightning, authorities have advised caution.
